Due to altitude Gastein valley is the place to be from early December until April.

Skiing areas Gastein

Winter sports enthusiasts and families can choose between four attractive skiing areas in the Gastein valley. Depending on weather conditions and your skiing skills you should plan your ski day. The biggest resort Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel is ideal for a family ski trip. A beginner practice ground including the kids park, slopes for all levels and lots of huts are waiting for you. Sportgastein is the highest skiing area and the place to be for freeriders. For all skiers who love difficult runs we recommend to visit the Graukogel where in 1958 the world championships took place. The ski link Dorfgastein-Großarl is also a very family friendly skiing area.

Freeride & ski mountaineering

Freeriding and ski mountaineering are very booming. Gastein valley is known as one of the most diversified freeride areas in Austria. For advanced freeriders Sportgastein is the place to be in Gastein. From the Schareck to Sportgastein runs the longest ski route. Furthermore there is a freeride info base as well as two freeride routes (Schlossalm – Sportgastein). Working with avalanche search & rescue transceivers in realistic conditions can be practiced at the avalanche training center in Sportgastein free of charge.
